WinterOver Crew 1979

John Konecki
1950-1992

John died in a plane crash in September of 92. I can't tell you how much loosing him hurts. John was an adventure in life. The tragedy  of his death, the lost energy of his life. The world is a smaller place without him.
Everyone on our team was special. John was exceptionally special. I respected his adventuress outlook on life and his sense of humor. He was the Station Manager, our 'Leader'. A tough job to fill. I couldn't have asked for a better 'Leader" or a more respectable friend.

John was the author of the Station Sitreps and a major contributor to the PSBWFPWL. Reading them will tell you a lot about John.

Captain John.
One of my favorites.

John loved flying. He brought a remote control airplane to The Ice for a hobby. You can see the exhilaration in his face after he flew his plane around the glacier.

John the co-pilot.

John with his thinking cap on.

John and George (Scooter), Pat was on drum and Jerry was singing backup.
Actually, this was the clean up party after the food fight, but that's another story!

John would help out as station Barber. Here he's helping Duane give Scooter 'a shine'.
This was an incredible  night, the night before the last ship left. Many of us shaved our heads, just to show we were not going to try to jump on that last ship!
