  5. Typical winter weather at palmer this week – with stretches of calm and clear that lure you outdoors, then pounce on you in an instant with wind-driven snow. Flags were set up along the road and on things that we would like to be able to dig up if needs be. The windsock at the Palmer aerodrome was put back up and secured to anchors by Pat and Jerry. The trail up the glacier to the windsock was flagged and a cache to survival gear was established at the top. The trail provides a good area for exercising, and a beautiful view of Arthur Harbor to boot. Allen spent Saturday rebuilding the auto-clean system on the kitchen exhaust hood. His inventory of food in the GWR building is now complete. Pat and Allen repaired the refrigeration system in the main GWR freezer. An overflow alarm was installed on the krill tanks. A station meeting on Saturday night discussed the mysterious workings of resupply. Shelves were moved from the diving locker into the General Supply area and the paints that had been cluttering the hallway near the garage were arranged in the new space. An inventory of paints and painting supplies was completed. A new storage bin system for small hardware was assembled in General Supply. Wire and battery stocks were reorganized. Inventory work continues with updating of Kardex files. Duane completed his work on the hydraulics and brakes on the Galion crane. Repair of a broken footpad is underway. The hood, doors, and other rusted parts were sanded and painted Cat yellow. Jerry worked on inventory in the Store and USARP Supply. His inventory of linen and bedding shows that we are well stocked in that department which has been arranged in the new linen cabinet. Jon Wells has been compiling communications resupply lists, passing Marsgrams northward for Siple and Palmer, and playing chess with Sanae Base over the radio. Contact was established Wednesday with the vessel Yelcho (Armada De Chile) via ATS-3 satellite. An ice report from the fleet weather facility in Suitland, MD. was passed to Texas A&M scientists on board working in the Drake Passage. Our candlelight Easter banquet was a big success thanks to Allen. It was followed by a poker seminar with lessons on how the game should be played by Pat, and demonstrations of why it should not by the other participants. Operations continue smoothly,
    Regards, Konecki
