Willy Field

 

Willy Field, a city built on sledges. Part of the year they move it down onto the thick, hard sea ice and build an ice runway there. When it starts to warm up, they move the city back up onto to the Ice Shelf and make a ski-way. Only a short (5 mile) drive away from McMurdo, there was a very different feel there, a different culture. The crew of Willy Field filled a vital role in the Antarctic operations and they proudly produced this parch in the mid 80's.
